SAT TestThe SAT test is the most recognized and widely used college admissions exam in the United States. Almost every college and university uses the SAT test as part of their admissions process to evaluate applicants. It is a timed, multiple-choice exam with a writing sample.
When should I take it? If you are a high school junior, you will need to take the SAT test. Because you can take the SAT test more than once if your first scores are not as high as you would like, many students take the SAT in the fall and spring of their junior year. Taking the test during your junior year ensures that your scores will be available before most college application deadlines. What does it cover? The SAT test covers material that you should have learned during high school in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Some students may need to take one or more of the SAT subject tests for the college admissions process. These tests are multiple choice and cover such subjects as World History, Literature, and Foreign Language. These subject tests are not scored as part of the main SAT test. How can I prepare? The best way to prepare for the SAT test is to check out an SAT study guide. You can borrow an SAT study guide from your local library, purchase one at a bookstore, or go online. The College Board website (sat.collegeboard.com) offers a variety of helpful preparation resources, including free practice tests and sample questions. The best way to prepare, besides paying attention in school, is to become familiar with the SAT question format.
