PRAXIS II TestIf you want to become a teacher, you may need to take the Praxis II tests as part of the teacher licensing and certification process. Because teachers have the power to impact future generations, all states require that their teachers meet a certain standard of knowledge and ability. The Praxis II tests are among the exams often required by many states for this purpose. What are the Praxis II tests? The Praxis II exams are specifically for potential teachers in grades kindergarten through high school (12th). They measure knowledge about subjects that teachers in these grades would teach, in addition to general education skills and knowledge. What do they cover? The Praxis II Subject Assessments include more than 120 different tests, ranging from Agriculture to World and U.S. History. In addition to the subject assessments, the Praxis II tests include the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests and the Teaching Foundations Tests. How do I register? Before you register for a test, you should check the licensing requirements of the state in which you want to teach. Once you confirm your licensing requirements, you can register for the necessary Praxis II tests by phone, email, or online. You can take the computer-based Praxis II test throughout the year by appointment at testing centers nationwide. The paper-based tests are given on pre-scheduled dates throughout the school year. Should I prepare? Studying for the Praxis II tests is highly recommended. A Praxis II study guide can be a great resource for practice exams, sample questions, a content outline, and other helpful test-taking strategies. Last Updated: 04/09/2013
