PHR Test TipsAs a human resource professional, you have a core base of knowledge that you use every day at the office. By taking the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification program offered through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI), you can turn this knowledge into a prestigious credential for your resume. If you will be taking the PHR exam soon, here are some tips to help you prepare: Read the HRCI Certification Handbook. The PHR is one of four certification exams offered by the HRCI. The HRCI Certification Handbook fully explains the PHR application process, registration, and test-day procedures. You can find the handbook on the HRCI website (www.hrci.org). Use a PHR study guide. To get ready for the PHR test, you should use a PHR study guide, which will provide sample questions, practice exams, and other test-taking strategies. Bookstores and your local public library may also carry the PHR study guide and related materials. Study the PHR exam content. In addition to a more general PHR study guide, you should also spend time looking over the detailed PHR outline that is available on the HRCI website. While each administration of the PHR exam differs from previous tests, the percentage content remains the same. The PHR outline provides detailed topics for the following sections: strategic management (12%), workforce planning and employment (26%), human resource development (17%), total rewards (16%), employee and labor relations (22%), and risk management (7%). You should print out several copies of the detailed outline and keep them with your study materials. Last Updated: 03/13/2012
