NYSTCE Test

Being a teacher is not easy. Not only do you need to know a wide variety of information, but you also need to be able to communicate effectively with your students and their parents. To make sure that their teachers are competent and up to the task, every state requires that teachers become certified. In the state of New York, you must pass the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) in order to earn your teaching certificate.

NYSTCE Test

The NYSTCE exams meet New York Education Law and regulations for educators and teachers receiving state certification.

NYSTCE is not just one exam; it actually consists of several categories of exams. If you want to become a certified teaching assistant, you will need to take the Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills. For teacher certification in elementary or secondary school, you will need to take one or more of the following NYSTCE exams: Liberal Arts and Sciences Test, the Assessments of Teaching Skills—Written, the Content Specialty Tests, the Bilingual Education Assessments, the Communication and Quantitative Skills Test, and the Assessment of Teaching Skills—Performance (ATS–P).

NYSTCE Test Study Guide | NYSTCE Exam Flashcards

You can register for the NYSTCE exams by internet or mail, and sometimes by telephone. You should register as soon as possible to increase your chances of being assigned to a test site within your first-choice area. Once you register for the exam, you will receive an admission ticket that lists your test selection, test site, test date, and reporting time.

You should begin studying for your NYSTCE exams at least several months in advance. An NYSTCE study guide offers test-taking strategies, sample test questions, and test objectives for each of the exams.
