MTTC Test

The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) is a teacher certification exam for any teaching candidate in the state of Michigan. Because teachers have the power to impact the next generation, the purpose of the MTTC is to make sure that all certified teachers in Michigan meet a certain standard for teaching skills and knowledge.

The MTTC is not a single test; it is comprised of two sections: the MTTC Basic Skills test and the MTTC subject area tests.

The MTTC Basic Skills test is a full-session test required of most teaching candidates. It includes multiple-choice questions in the reading and math sections and a written performance assignment in the writing section.

Depending on your area of education, you may be required to take one or more MTTC subject-area tests. The subject-area tests consist of multiple-choice questions (except for the world language tests, which have both multiple-choice questions and two or more performance assignments).

You can register for the MTTC tests by mail, internet, or phone. Once you have registered, you will be assigned to either one or both test sessions, depending on the number and type of tests for which you register.

You should begin preparing for the MTTC tests at least a few months in advance of your scheduled test date. An MTTC study guide is a great place to start. The MTTC study guide offers test-taking strategies, sample test questions, and test objectives.
