HSPT TestIf you are in eighth grade, your school may ask you to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) to help decide which courses you should take. The HSPT was developed by the Scholastic Testing Service as a comprehensive placement test for eighth graders who will be entering the ninth grade.
The HSPT test covers general math and reading skills. There are two published forms of the HSPT test: open and closed. Both tests provide national normative measures in the following cognitive and basic skills areas: verbal and quantitative skills, reading, mathematics, and language. You cannot fail. There is no need to stress about the HSPT test because it is NOT scored on a pass or fail scale. Your scores serve only as an indicator for which courses you will need during the early years of high school. The HSPT tests are scored using cognitive skills quotients (CSQs), standard scores, national and local percentiles, and grade equivalents. An HSPT study guide will help you prepare. While the HSPT test is not pass or fail, you may want to prepare ahead of time for the testing format. There are many HSPT study guides available for purchase online and at your local bookstore. You may be able to borrow an HSPT study guide from your public library. The HSPT study guide will provide sample questions and a practice exam.
