FTCE TestThe Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) helps teachers in Florida meet the educational requirements of Florida law. If you want to teach in Florida, you will likely need to take the FTCE.
The FTCE test is actually not a single test, but several categories of exams that assess mastery of basic skills, professional knowledge, and content areas of specialization. The FTCE test includes the General Knowledge (GK) test, the FTCE Professional Education Test (PEd), and the FTCE Subject Area Examinations (SAE) test. Which test you should take depends on your teacher certification requirements, as each teaching position (elementary versus high school, for example) has different requirements. These requirements are determined by the Bureau of Educator Certification at the Department of Education in Tallahassee. If you have a certification application on file, the Bureau will inform you of your individual testing requirements. You can register for the FTCE test at any time by internet, phone, or mail. At registration, you will be asked to provide your contact information and to answer background questions that are centered primarily on your academic and professional history. While there are no registration deadlines for the FTCE, you should register early on in your certification process since times of high demand may result in a shortage of testing seats.
