English School

English schools are often referred to as ESL schools and can be either programs run through community colleges or private educational institutions. English school classes cover pronunciation, conversation, reading, and writing. There are many different types of English schools, simply because there are several reasons why a person might need to improve his or her English skills:

• Conversational English: This is a basic English language course designed to help students learn how to complete everyday tasks such as asking for directions or ordering food at a restaurant.
• Citizenship English: These types of classes help you prepare to apply to become a United States citizen. The USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) test is written for people who are not native English speakers, but it does assume that the test taker has a basic command of the English language.
• Business English or English in the workplace: These types of classes are geared towards people who need to do business with English speaking customers and want to learn how to communicate in a professional matter.
  
• English for students: These types of classes help young people who are interested in attending college and need to prepare to take the PSAT, SAT, or TOEFL exams.

Classes that cover conversational English and citizenship English are often provided free of charge or for a nominal fee. Business English or English classes for high school students may be offered through a community college or a private educational institution but typically charge tuition fees that are in line with a standard postsecondary or continuing education course.
