COMPASS Test

If you an incoming college freshman, your school may ask you to take the COMPASS test for placement purposes. COMPASS is a computer-adaptive college placement test that helps educators connect you to the resources you need for a successful college education.

The COMPASS test covers general math and reading skills. The COMPASS test will evaluate your still levels in reading, writing (general and essay), math, and ESL. The math section covers numerical skills / pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The writing section covers punctuation, basic grammar and usage, sentence structure, strategy, organization, and style.

The computerized COMPASS test is not timed. COMPASS is an adaptive exam administered via computer. You will have as much time as you need to answer the questions, and you will receive your scores immediately after testing.

You cannot fail. There is no need to be overly anxious about the COMPASS test. It is NOT scored on a pass or fail scale. Your scores serve only as an indicator for which college courses you need.
