Beauty School

If you're interested in helping people find ways to look their very best, you may want to consider attending beauty school. The cosmetology profession is growing rapidly, resulting in an abundance of career opportunities for motivated individuals who want to work at salons, spas, or resorts. Search for great beauty exam study tips here.

Beauty schools can be either departments of a community college or stand alone institutions. A beauty school teaches students about makeup application, hairstyling, manicures, pedicures, and skin treatments. Students take classes and then apply what they have learned while working under the supervision of a licensed cosmetologist to serve clients in the school's salon.

Beauty school programs vary widely in length. A certificate or diploma program can take anywhere between one month and one year of full-time study to complete, depending upon the area of specialization. An associate's degree program, however, may require up to two years of study. As long as the program has the proper federal accreditation, students are eligible for loans, grants, and scholarships to help pay for tuition expenses.

If you are thinking about attending beauty school, remember that a school's reputation is very important. Ask the cosmologists in your area where they received their training and what schools they would recommend. Make plans to visit as many schools as possible in person. Try to observe a class and speak to the instructor about his or her professional cosmetology experience. You do not want to simply rely on the beauty school website to answer your questions.
