Most banking careers can be found in the office or administrative area. Bank tellers provide assistance to customers who want to deposit checks, make withdrawals, or open new accounts. Customer service representatives answer questions from customers via phone or email and work to resolve any complaints that may arise from the handling of routine banking transactions. Secretaries and administrative assistants work to manage the activities of bank supervisors. Many of these positions are part-time, which makes them a good choice for people looking to balance their career with family responsibilities.

If you're not afraid of responsibility, are good with numbers, and have a great eye for detail, banking careers in the finance or management area may be a good fit. Loan officers evaluate loan applications to determine who will be approved for a particular loan. Trust officers manage large assets that are placed in care of the bank, such as pension funds or school endowments. Financial services agents contact potential customers and try to sell the bank's various services.

The education required for banking careers varies widely. Many small banks will accept tellers with a high school diploma and provide the on-the-job training needed to advance to upper level positions with the company. At larger banks, however, it is generally expected that employees obtain some sort of postsecondary education in accounting, business, or finance.
