AEPA Exam

If you plan to be a teacher or an educator in the state of Arizona, you will need to pass the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA) exam before you can become certified.

The Arizona State Board of Education requires that educators of all kinds (teachers, administrators, etc.) pass this test of professional knowledge, subject knowledge (for applicants who plan to become certified teachers), and state/national constitutional knowledge.

AEPA Test

What does the AEPA exam cover? It depends on which AEPA exam you need. There are five kinds of AEPA tests: subject-knowledge tests (which match up to a particular Arizona certificate), professional knowledge tests, administrator tests (Superintendent, Principal, Supervisor), the test on the Constitutions of the United States and Arizona, and a Basic Skills test. Most candidates will need at least one subject-knowledge test, which covers the subject for which you want to be certified. The AEPA exam is objective-based and measures your knowledge of facts, policies, and educational theories. Each AEPA exam covers areas in the Arizona Academic (K–12) Standards, the Arizona Professional Teaching Standards, and the Arizona Professional Administrative Standards.
