ACT Test

ACT stands for American College Testing, an organization founded in 1959 for students entering college. While ACT as an organization offers a broad array of academic and workforce solutions, it is perhaps best known for the college entrance exam that bears its name: the ACT Test.

What is it? The ACT Test is a national college admissions examination that consists of four multiple-choice tests in the areas of English, mathematics, reading, and science. A separate test called the ACT Plus Writing exam includes these four multiple-choice tests along with a writing test. The ACT Test takes about 3 ½ to 4 hours to complete. The ACT test is an achievement exam that measures what you learned in school.

Who needs to take it? If you are a college-bound high school student, you may need to take the ACT test for admission to college. Some university admission departments require the SAT and the ACT, while others require only the SAT. Make sure to check the requirements of each college before you apply. You will need to take the ACT test at least two months prior to college application deadlines, preferably during your junior year of high school.

How can I prepare? It is highly recommended that students prepare for the ACT test by purchasing an ACT study guide, which will guide you through strategies needed to do well on the exam. Most ACT study guides also provide sample tests and writing sections for valuable practice.

To learn more about the ACT test and how to prepare for it, visit the official ACT website. This site offers details about where and how to register for the exam and also provides students with help in planning for college. You may register for the exam online or through the mail, and all testing is done in ACT testing centers across the country.
