Accuplacer Test

Students entering college have vast learning differences due to previous education and experience. For example, someone who took Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school will have different educational needs than someone who did not. Before you jump head-first into college courses, you may need to take the Accuplacer Test.

Accuplacer Test

The Accuplacer Test was developed by The College Board, the same non-profit organization that brought us the SAT exam, CLEP, and AP courses. Students who take the Accuplacer Test will be able to see where they stand academically in math, English, and reading.

The Accuplacer Test does not pass or fail students-it is only for assessment. Your academic advisors will use the results, in combination with your academic background and goals, to decide which courses you should take during your first year of college.

Accuplacer Test Study Guide | Accuplacer Exam Flashcards

You need to know several things before taking the Accuplacer Test.

First, the test consists of all multiple choice questions except for the essay question (which covers a familiar topic).

Secondly, the multiple-choice section of the Accuplacer test is not timed, so you will be able to take as long as you need to answer the multiple choice questions. The essay may or may not be timed.

Finally, the Accuplacer Test is adaptive, meaning that your answers to previous questions will progressively shape the remaining questions. This format allows the test to generate questions specific to your level, so that by the end of the test, your results will reflect your academic knowledge as best as possible. This also means that during the test, you will not be allowed to go back to answer questions that you have skipped.

If you will be taking the Accuplacer test, you may want to check out an Accuplacer study guide to maximize your chances of doing well. An Accuplacer study guide will help you feel more prepared for the exam since you can review some sample questions.

On the day of the test, make sure to arrive early and have a photo ID available. Whatever you do, avoid stressing out about the Accuplacer Test. You cannot pass or fail, and your scores will help identify the best college courses to meet your unique educational needs.
